Well, the 2019 Memorial Walk to Remember Loved Ones is now in the history books.
The day was a brisk, fall one and a perfect for a walk.
We walked in memory and celebration of loved ones lost, in particular, those gone too soon. There was laughter and sadness, stories were told and retold and as a soothing backdrop to all of the activity there was live music.
While there may be many levels and striations of grief, there is a universality to mourning that unites us all. We can take comfort from and help each other through the process and maybe, sometimes, we can enjoy each others company as we help each other to heal.

Vigils for Healing, a local volunteer led-nonprofit that supports loved ones of homicide victims, invites the community to participate in the 2019 Memorial Walk to Remember, Saturday October 5, 11:00am to 1:00pm, at Miller Park, 400 Leisure Lane, Winston-Salem. We will meet in shelter #4-the one nearest the amphitheater.
The highlight of this free event will be an optional one-mile circuit in the park to commemorate the memory of a loved one who has died for any reason at any age. The event will also include a commemorative gathering, healing music, and a balloon release. Participants are encouraged to bring a photo of their loved one/s, no larger than a 5 x 7. In this violent time, we seek to affirm life, commemorate those gone too soon, uplift their memory in a public gathering of support and compassion. All are welcome.
